Sports Interaction News Week 1
NFL Playoffs

The first round of the NFL playoffs goes this weekend and early bettors like the favourites in Saturday’s two tilts and underdogs in Sunday’s games.

The Kansas City Chiefs are pegged as big 9-point favourites at home against the Tennessee Titans and they’re seeing about 54 percent of the action on the point spread. The Chiefs were 6-2 straight up and against the spread in the regular season and are riding a four-game winning streak. The public also likes the Los Angeles Rams as 6.5-point favourites at home against the Atlanta Falcons. About 56 percent of bets are on the Rams to cover. Atlanta’s inconsistent offence had better get on track quickly because the Rams averaged a league-best 29.9 points per game.

Buffalo Bills bettors are showing their squad some love as it heads to the postseason for the first time in 17 years. The Bills are currently 9-point underdogs, but about 65 percent of bettors think they’ll cover that number when they visit the Jaguars on Sunday afternoon. In the nightcap, it’s another NFC South showdown as the Carolina Panthers take on the Saints in New Orleans. Almost 60 percent of bettors like the Panthers to cover the number.

With the NFL playoff picture now set, the New England Patriots are +210 favourites, ahead of Minnesota (+375), Pittsburgh (+575), New Orleans (+750), and Los Angeles (+800).

NCAA National Championship

The College Football Playoff National Championship goes Monday, Jan. 8 and the Alabama Crimson Tide are 4-point favourites to win their 17th title. Alabama plastered Clemson in its semifinal game while Georgia advanced to the final after winning a shootout with Oklahoma. The line for the championship game opened at 4.5 but was bet down half a point in 24 hours. Now, about 68 percent of the point spread bets are on Alabama and 60 percent of over/under wagers are checking in above 44.5 points.

NBA

The Toronto Raptors seem to have cemented themselves as the third best team in the East, but look hungry to come after the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers. The Celtics lead the league at 24-14-2 against the spread. Toronto is closing that gap at 20-15 against the number. The Raptors have won eight of their last 10 and now rank among the top 10 in points scored and points allowed per game.
