Just one home team advanced from last weekend’s Wild-Card matchups – the Houston Texans. Welcome to the unpredictability of the NFL playoffs. So after three outright road underdogs won outright last week, we have three games featuring point spreads of at least seven points.
On Saturday, the San Francisco 49ers host the Minnesota Vikings as 7-point favourites before the Tennessee Titans visit the Baltimore Ravens as 10-point underdogs. The Niners opened at -6.5 before that line moved to -7. Action is currently split down the middle on that point spread, while the total has dropped from 46 to 44. The Ravens, who are riding a franchise-best 12-game losing streak, are seeing 56 percent of the action on the point spread.
The Kansas City Chiefs are also 10-point favourites against the Houston Texans after that line opened at -9. Bettors are leaning slightly toward the Chiefs on the spread, even though Kansas City is just 1-9 against the spread in its last 10 playoff games at home. The final game of the weekend also features its two most popular bets. Nearly 70 percent of wagers are currently backing the underdog Seattle Seahawks to cover the 3.5-point spread on the road in Green Bay, while 76 percent of bets are on the game finishing under 47 points.
College Football Playoff Championship
The NCAA football champion will be decided Monday night as the No. 3 Clemson Tigers battle the No. 1 LSU Tigers at the Superdome in New Orleans. LSU started off as a 5-point favourite at the open, but moved to -6 with nearly 80 percent of bets supporting the SEC champions. The total has moved from 68.5 to 69.5 in a matchup that features LSU’s top-rated offence against Clemson’s top-rated defence.
The Tampa Bay Lightning went into this season as Stanley Cup favourites and while it has taken a while for them to find their game, they’re catching fire now. They faced the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday in the second matchup ever between two teams that had won at least seven straight games. Tampa Bay won that one in a 9-2 laugher. The Lightning own the league’s best offence averaging 3.69 goals per game and are now at +900 to win the Stanley Cup. Tampa hosts Arizona on Thursday before visiting Philadelphia and New Jersey in back-to-back games this weekend.
UFC 264 goes live on Saturday, Jan. 18 with Conor McGregor facing Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in the main event. A little more than a week out from the fight, McGregor is set as a -310 favourite to win and is at -138 to win the bout by knockout or TKO. The over/under is set at 2.5 rounds with the under at -190.
