Thankfully, now that we’re getting deep into the NFL playoff race, the league is starting to flex its biggest games of the week into primetime slots. That’s why we have a doozy of a matchup for Sunday Night Football with the Green Bay Packers travelling to San Francisco for a date with the 49ers. Green Bay is a field-goal underdog, but in keeping with the hot underdog trend this year, almost three-quarters of early bets are on the Cheeseheads to cover the number. On the year, underdogs are 87-71-4 even though nine favourites covered last week.
Week 12 also features a battle for first place in the AFC South on Thursday Night Football as the Colts visit the Houston Texans. The Texans opened as 3.5-point favourites before moving up to -4. About 65 percent of bettors like the Texans. There’s another huge matchup late Sunday afternoon when the Dallas Cowboys visit the New England Patriots. The Pats opened as 7-point favourites, but that number currently sits at New England -6.5 with 60 percent of wagers on the home team.
You’ll have to wait until Monday night to get a piece of the most popular bet in Week 12. That’s when the Baltimore Ravens visit the Los Angeles Rams. Baltimore opened as a 2-point favourite, but a wave of betting support has the Ravens at -3 now. Baltimore has won six in a row and more than 90 percent of bets are backing the Ravens. Don’t forget that the Rams have been good against the spread this year though, sitting at 7-3 against the number.
CFL Grey Cup
The 107th Grey Cup kicks off Sunday from McMahon Stadium in Calgary as the Hamilton Tiger-Cats look to cap off a great year with a win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. It has the makings of a classic matchup and these teams haven’t met in a Grey Cup in 35 years. The early betting support is backing the Ti-Cats. They opened as 3.5-point favourites and that line has since moved to -4, while the total has shifted from 52.5 to 52. There’s no doubt that these teams are capable of putting some points on the board. Hamilton ranks first overall averaging 30.6 points per game while Winnipeg is second at 28.2. Be sure to keep a close eye on these odds as kickoff nears. With the majority of betting action still to come, the point spread and total could be on the move, plus a full list of player props are on the way.
Remember when NBA experts were wondering if the Toronto Raptors would even make the playoffs? Despite a rash of injuries that has Kyle Lowry and Serge Ibaka on the shelf, Toronto is second in the Atlantic Division at 9-4 (8-5 against the spread). The Raps are also 5-0 at home so far and play six of their next eight games at the Air Canada Centre.
