Super Bowl 53
The New England Patriots remain favoured to win the sixth Super Bowl championship in franchise history when they face the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. As we mentioned last week, the Rams were the opening favourite from oddsmakers at -1.5, but that line quickly flipped to favour the Patriots at -1.5. From there New England bettors continued to support their squad on the point spread, forcing sportsbooks to move the Pats to -2.5 last week and now up to where they currently sit as 3-point favourites. Close to 70 percent of our Super Bowl point spread bettors are backing New England to cover.
Most books opened with the game’s over/under pegged at 58 points, but that initial number didn’t last long either. Early action was primarily on the under and the total dropped steadily until it hit 56 late last week. Given the sheer volume of Super Bowl betting, many figured the total might inch its way back up again – square bettors love seeing points on the board – and that’s what we’re seeing now. The total is currently on the board at 56.5 but that could move up at least a point before kickoff.
Super Bowl Prop Odds
If you have your mind made up on the Super Bowl spread and total, we have more props for the big game going live daily. Right now the betting public expects Gladys Knight’s national anthem to last more than 105 seconds (-160) and the two most popular choices for Maroon 5’s first song at halftime are “Makes Me Wonder” (+250) or “Moves Like Jagger” (+600). Possibly the strangest action we’re seeing is about 80 percent of wagers coming in on the coin toss ending up Heads (-120).
Other popular betting options include betting that the total number of points scored in Super Bowl 53 will be exactly 53 (+2500), will a player take a knee during the national anthem (Yes +525), and will US President Donald Trump congratulate the winning team via Twitter (Yes -330).
If this two-week hiatus before the big game is proving to be too much and you’re tired of pregame analysis, you might want to take a break with the Puppy Bowl. If you can believe it, this will be the 15th Puppy Bowl, which will feature 93 pups from 51 shelters from over 20 states and territories. Early odds have this matchup set as a Pick ‘em between Team Ruff and Team Fluff.
