There a multiple Blackjack Variations available to choose from and is one of the easiest games to play. There are even Blackjack Side Bets available.
Whether you’re playing online or offline, one of the real thrills of a bit of casino action is the wealth of gaming options which are available. From slots to a range of exciting table games, players have so much choice when it comes to having a flutter and trying to win big.
Of course, one of the most popular casino classics is blackjack, the table game which revolves around the simple premise of making a hand which comes as close as possible to 21. While some have claimed the game’s popularity has fallen in recent years, it remains a real draw – no pun intended – for a huge number of people.
A real attraction of blackjack is undoubtedly its straightforward rules, but the game has gone on to inspire a number of variations that all offer their own unique take on the classic. Whether you’re looking for a new challenge or a bit of a twist on this much-loved favorite, here is a look at just a few of the different types of blackjack commonly played today.
Spanish 21
Spanish 21 is a very popular variant of the game and while the rights to it are owned by Colorado-based company Masque Publishing, you may also come across unofficial versions which bear some of its hallmarks.
The game can feature a range of rules, but among the most common is that it is played with six to eight decks, which all have the tens removed.
Doubling down – which means players double their bet on a hand – can be common in standard blackjack and while this also occurs in Spanish 21, players also have the option to ‘surrender’ after doing so. This means that while players may lose the initial bet, they are able to keep the wager made after they doubled down.
Super Fun 21
The origins and ownership of this version of blackjack are also well-known, as it was created and patented by Howard F Grossman in 1999.
Among the key elements of Super Fun 21 is the fact that players can split their hand – separate two cards of the same value into different hands – up to four times.
Players also win automatically if their hand is made up of six cards with a total of 20 or less, while a hand which consists of five cards totaling 21 is also paid at 2:1.
Blackjack Switch
Patented more recently in 2009, Blackjack Switch was created by Geoff Hall and features one fairly key difference to traditional blackjack. Players are dealt two hands and are given the option to trade – or switch – the top cards in each.
Hall came up with the idea while playing a two-hand version of standard blackjack and noticing how he could have made much stronger hands on numerous occasions by being able to switch the top cards. He then further developed the idea and it has become a welcome addition to the casino gaming world.
Like Spanish 21, it is very common to see either six or eight decks used in the game.
Double Exposure Blackjack
This form of blackjack makes the dealer’s cards visible to all players at the table, which means that players receive a greater level of information while playing.
While this should give the player a strong advantage, further rule changes mean this is not always the case.
For example, while a natural blackjack in the traditional form of the game sees a payout of 3:2, in this version it is changed to evens. Furthermore, all bets are lost and go to the dealer if the cards are tied.
A new way to play
While there is very little wrong with the classic form of blackjack, the information above highlights how many fascinating variations of the game have emerged in recent years.
Whether you are a long-time blackjack player or in fact new to the world of casino gaming, we are sure that these games will offer you hours of fun.
